This article will tell you how to judge a second-hand printer?

Before buying a second-hand printer, you must be careful. There are many tricks.

First of all, second-hand printers must be repaired. They cannot be sold without repair. As for whether there is any problem, you have to disassemble the machine for inspection.

From paper feeding to paper output, to imaging, and fixing part, we must check thoroughly. And stability and reliability must be tested repeatedly.

Most second-hand printers are relatively mature models on the market. This type of machine has rich third-party toner cartridges, low cost of use. However, second-hand printers have deep tricks, especially some laser printers. In order to improve the appearance of the product, some merchants only work on the shell, but do not effectively repair and maintain the machine, which leads to failures after users buy it back.

A printer is a device with mechanical parts as the main component. Printer failures are almost all “mechanical failures” or “optical failures”, and the motherboard and system rarely have problems.

Take a laser printer as an example, which includes optical components, developing components, imaging components, fixing components and scanner components.

Since you are buying a second-hand printer, you should not only look at its appearance, but the core components.

For laser printer, the most valuable components are the following:
Fuser unit, laser, transfer component, paper feeder, document feeder, duplexer, power board, high-voltage board, scanner, toner cartridge, and finally the shell.

The shell is the least valuable part in the printer. The merchant can bleach it, remove yellow stains, polish it, wax it or spray paint it. These costs are very low.

The production date label on the back of the printer can be printed and pasted by the supplier.

For a second-hand laser printer, first look at: paper feeding, fixing, and imaging. That is, whether the paper feeding is smooth, whether the paper output is smooth, whether the fixing is firm, and whether the laser imaging is good.

1. Paper feeding: How to judge whether the paper feeding is smooth? Is the paper output smooth?

First, check the pickup wheel to see if there are any lines and whether the paging device is worn.

The second-hand printer has been used before, so the pickup wheel and paging device must be worn. If the wear is serious, the pickup wheel and paging device need to be replaced, otherwise it will cause difficulty in feeding or multiple sheets of paper.

If the pickup wheel and paging device are visually in good condition, you can print 10-30 sheets first to see if there is any paper jam. If there is no paper jam, paper feeding and paper output problems, it means that the machine feeds paper smoothly and outputs paper smoothly.

2. Fixing: How to judge whether the fixing is firm?

The fuser is one of the core components of the laser printer. Its main function is to fix the toner on the paper through high temperature and high pressure. If the fuser fails, the printed content will fall off when touched by hand, or there will be printing ghosting.

If there is toner adhesion on the heating tube, it will cause black spots on the printed paper. If the pressure roller is damaged, it will affect the fixing quality, and the printed content in some areas will fall off after being touched by hand. If the separation claw is missing, it will cause frequent paper jams in the fuser.

For second-hand laser printers, first check whether the heating tube/fixing film of the fuser and the pressure roller are damaged. If there is damage, it is recommended to return it. If there is no damage, first print a piece of content with a high coverage rate, touch the image with your hand, if the image is firm, it means that the fixing effect is good. Otherwise, it means that the fuser is faulty or the toner quality is poor.

3. Imaging: How to judge whether the laser imaging is good?

The laser is the imaging part of the laser printer and will directly affect the printing effect.

Before testing whether the laser imaging effect is good, first determine whether the toner cartridge is normal. If the second-hand printer toner cartridge you bought is used, it is recommended to buy a new toner cartridge and replace it.

First print a content with a large coverage area to see the effect. If the laser is dirty, the image color will be lighter, even if the toner cartridge is new.

Although the failure rate of the laser is very low and it generally does not break, it needs to be cleaned of dust after a long time of use. Second-hand printer merchants generally do not deliberately clean the laser, because cleaning the laser requires disassembly, which is troublesome. Some merchants are unwilling to clean, and many merchants have limited technical levels and dare not touch the laser.

Summary:

For second-hand laser printers, first check the paper feeder and the paging roller to see if new parts have been replaced; and whether the heating tube and pressure roller of the fuser are damaged; whether the laser is working properly, whether the duplexer is jammed when automatically turning pages, and whether the feeder is feeding paper smoothly, and finally check the color of the shell.

If the second-hand printer you bought has all the above parts normal, then you can check the color of its shell. If you think the shell is dirty, just wipe it. If it doesn’t work, disassemble the shell and spray it with self-spray paint. You can also choose your own color.

The above is a method to judge the quality of second-hand laser printers.
