A Complete Guide to Resetting Counters on Ricoh Copiers

While using a Ricoh copier, you may need to reset the counters. For example, if the machine indicates that consumables have reached their end of life, but the consumables are still functional, resetting the counters allows the copier to continue operating, saving office costs. However, the methods for resetting counters vary between different Ricoh copier models. Below is a detailed introduction to common methods.

1. Entering Maintenance Mode (SP Mode)

To reset counters on most Ricoh copiers, you first need to enter maintenance mode. For example, on a common model, press the panel buttons in the following order: “C” → “1” → “0” → “7” → “C”. Press and hold the “C/◇” key for more than 3 seconds. The SP Mode menu will appear on the LCD screen. This menu includes options such as “Copy”, “Fax”, and “Printer”. We will focus on copier-related settings.

2. Steps for Resetting Different Counters

1) Resetting the Electrical Total Counter: After installing a new copier, you typically initialize the electrical total counter using a specific code. Some models can access SP7-825 and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the initialization process. This step allows the machine to accurately record the number of times it has been used since the last restart.

2) Resetting the PM counter: The PM counter is associated with scheduled maintenance. When the preset maintenance count is reached, the machine may prompt a maintenance request. To clear the PM counter, access SP7-804 and simultaneously press the document type key and the “OK” or “R/#” key. After successfully resetting the counter, the screen will display “Execution Completed”.

3) Resetting the fuser counter: The fuser unit is expensive, and the lifespan of the unit may be too short. If the fuser life is expired but the machine is still functioning well, you can try resetting it. First, enter maintenance mode, click the “System SP” option, enter “3701115” to enter the fuser life reset item, change the value to “1”, and then shut down and restart the machine to resolve the fuser life lock issue.

3. Precautions for Resetting the Copier

Confirm model compatibility: The reset codes and procedures vary between copier models. Be sure to confirm that the method is correct for your model. Failure to do so may cause the machine to malfunction.

Back up important data and settings: The reset operation may restore some personalized settings to default. Before performing this operation, it is recommended to back up important data on the copier and record the current settings. Reset the settings again after the reset is complete.

Operate with caution: Settings in maintenance mode affect the core functions of the machine. Do not modify unknown parameters other than the reset operation to avoid causing new problems.

If you encounter difficulties during the reset process or are unsure of the procedure, contact a professional Ricoh copier repair technician.
