Background

1.Laser Printer vs. Inkjet Printer: Which type is suitable for you?

1) Compared to inkjet printers, the biggest advantage of laser printers is not clog, can be stored for long time.

Inkjet printers cannot be stored for a long time. The nozzle will be scrapped, if you stored for more than one year. But, if you have strong hands-on ability, you can try to rescue it. Such as removing the nozzle, soaking it in water for a while, and then cleaning it several times with a large amount of ink after use. Usually, there will be improvement.

2) The working principle of laserjet printers is fundamentally different from that of inkjet printers. Inkjet printers print patterns onto paper by ejecting ink. Laser printers rely on optical and photosensitive components, and use toner powder.

3) Laser printers, due to the use of powder consumables, theoretically do not have any clogging phenomenon. The printed documents will not fade after being subjected to high temperature and high pressure in the fuser. And their stability and reliability far exceed those of inkjet printers.

4) The disadvantage of laser printers is high power consumption, with both the fuser unit and laser consuming a lot of electricity.

5) In terms of resolution, laser printers are not as high as inkjet printers, and their color reproduction is not as good as inkjet printers.

6) Laser printers only have four-color toner: Black, Cyan, Yellow, Magenta. Inkjet printers with four-color ink are just the most basic version. There are also six-color, eight-color, and twelve-color models, with much higher color reproduction than color laser printers.

2.Why are laser printers not as high resolution as inkjets?

Because laser printers and inkjet printers use different consumables. Laser printers use toner powder while inkjet printers use ink.

Toner powder has larger particles than ink droplets, so laser printers generally have lower resolution than inkjet printers.

Some low-end laser printers can reach a resolution of 1200dpi, the resolution is supported by the CPU and printing language, not the resolution of the developing component.

Only high-end laser printers support true high resolution. The toner particles used in these machines are finer, so the resolution of the developing component is higher, thereby improving the printing effect. That is the reason why high-end machines have high requirements for toner powder. Poor toner can easily cause damage to the developing component and toner cartridge.

If your budget is limited, recommend to use an inkjet printer to print color photos. A 6-color inkjet printer produces excellent photo printing results.

Inkjet printers can only show their high-resolution advantages when using photo paper + high-quality mode.

If you only print black and white documents, inkjet printers are not suitable. Recommend to choose laser printers because after the ink is sprayed onto the paper, there will be burrs on the edges of the text, which are not as sharp as laser printers.

3.Summary:

If you only print black and white documents, black and white laser printer is definitely the first choice. It does not clog or dry up the ink, has a fast speed, and its compatible toner cartridges are affordable, and have lower costs if refilling toner by yourself.

Color laser printers are more suitable for printing color documents or color graphics and text. But the resolution is too low to print high-definition images, and the color reproduction is not as realistic as inkjet printers.
