Summary of Common Problems of Brother Printers

In the process of using Brother printers, we may encounter some problems. Based on years of experience, KBT technicians have summarized the common problems and solutions of Brother printers as follow:

Common Faults:

1. DUST on drum

Fault manifestation: Paper jam.

Laser printers show that the paper jam light flashes.

All-in-one printers show that the screen reports an error: DUST on drum

Solution:

Remove the toner cartridge, thoroughly clean the electrode wire and the inside of the charging grid, with a success rate of 90%. If it still doesn’t work, replace the electrode wire

2. There is a ghosting after refilling toner

Fault manifestation: There is no problem in the test before filling toner, but there is a slight or severe ghosting problem after refilling toner.

Solution:

A) The toner is incompatible. Clean the remaining toner before refilling toner and clean the toner cartridge thoroughly.

B) The high voltage is not correct. The high voltage of Brother machines is not constant. With the replacement of new toner cartridges and the increase in the number of prints, the high voltage is adjusted proportionally. The high voltage is reset to the initial value by resetting the toner cartridge and the drum unit.

C) The plastic sleeve of the magnetic roller on the right side of the toner cartridge is not conductive (the protruding piece on the left). That piece of plastic is not ordinary plastic, but made of carbon, which provides high voltage to the magnetic roller. You can use a multimeter to measure it. If the needle does not respond, replace the magnetic roller conductive sleeve or replace a new toner cartridge.

D) Charging electrode, charging grid, transfer electrode, de-electrification brush, OPC drum grounding, magnetic roller development bias, these contacts are all conductive steel wires, which are easy to deform and have poor contact.

E) High-voltage board, main board problem (rarely occurs)

3. Fault manifestation: The left side of the print is obviously lighter

Solution:

A) First eliminate the problem of the toner cartridge, see if the powder on the toner cartridge is uniform or not, if it is not uniform, clean the toner cartridge.

B) It is caused by a dirty laser, clean the laser.

4. The printed document is partially light

Fault manifestation: Part of the printed document is regularly light and dark, and the boundary between light and dark is clear.

Solution:

Clean the powder blade, the powder blade is carbonized, causing the powder to not be adsorbed on the magnetic roller.

5. Fault manifestation: Sometimes the print is very clean, and sometimes the print has a dirty background. Frequently report no toner cartridge error.

Replacing the toner kit and the drum unit is ineffective. Replacing the high-voltage board is also ineffective.

Solution:

A) Charging electrode, charging grid, transfer electrode, de-electrification brush, OPC drum grounding, magnetic roller development bias, these contacts are all steel wire conductive, easy to deform, and poor contact.

B) High-voltage board, motherboard problem. (It rarely occurs)

6. Fault manifestation: The machine often reports drum error

Solution:

Charging electrode, charging grid, transfer electrode, de-electrification brush, OPC drum grounding, magnetic roller development bias, these contacts are all steel wire conductive, easy to deform, and poor contact. Mainly charging electrode contacts. Substitute toner cartridges have more such problems.

7. Fault manifestation: The upper and lower rollers stick together, resulting in failure to start the machine

Solution:

A) This problem is mainly due to the design defects of the Brother machine, thermistor misdetection, the temperature insurance did not play the due protective role, when the temperature reaches a certain limit, the temperature insurance did not trip, and the upper and lower rollers stuck together.

B) Human error: when disassembling the mainboard, the wrong plug was inserted, causing the thermistor to fail, causing the upper and lower rollers to stick together.

Replace the upper and lower rollers, replace the thermistor

8. Fault manifestation: Whether printing or copying, it is very shallow and almost invisible, and the front cover cannot be opened.

Solution:

The above situation is generally caused by the damage of the gear that drives the toner cartridge. The judgment method is:

A) If the front cover cannot be opened, 100% of the gears that drive the toner cartridge are damaged;

B) If the front cover can be opened, make a mark on the magnetic roller of the toner cartridge by hand, then put the toner cartridge into the machine, wait for the machine to complete the self-check, and then pull out the toner cartridge to see if the mark on the magnetic roller is still there. If it is still there, in most cases, the gear that drives the toner cartridge is damaged. The above situation is caused by the heavy toner cartridge and the large resistance to rotation. Change the gear or replace a new toner cartridge.

9. Fault manifestation: Paper jam during copying and printing, each time the paper jam is under the drum, but the machine prompts “Open the back cover to remove the jammed paper”

Solution:

This is generally caused by the heavy toner cartridge. Because the toner cartridge is too heavy, the main motor has difficulty rotating, so that the sensor fails to detect the paper within the specified time and reports an error, causing the fixing delay jam.
