How to Replace the Drum Assembly on Toshiba 4505AC?

This article describes how to replace the drum unit on Toshiba FC-4505AC color copier (FC-4505AC).

Replacing the drum assembly on this machine is relatively simple. The steps are as follows:

1. First, turn off the machine and unplug the power cord.

2. Open the front door (As shown in the figure above) and remove the waste toner cartridge (As shown in the figure below). When removing the waste toner box, there are two green button latches at the top two ends. Press them firmly while removing the cartridge. Place the removed waste toner box on a piece of paper with the waste toner outlet facing upwards to avoid soiling the floor.

3. To the right of the black toner cartridge, there is a gray release lever (As shown in the figure above). Open it downwards and then twist it to the right to change the release lever from a vertical position to a horizontal position (As shown in the figure below).

4. Pull the old drum unit out horizontally. Each drum unit has a gray retaining pin on the upper right (As shown in the figure below). Press down on the retaining pin while pulling the drum outwards.

5. It is recommended to reinstall a new drum assembly as soon as you remove an old one. Each new drum unit has a white plastic developer seal strip. Do not remove this seal strip before installing the drum unit into the machine. Before installation, shake each drum cartridge horizontally a few times to even out the carrier in the developer unit, preventing excessive developer load and damage to the new drum unit.

6. When replacing drum units, be sure to install them according to the color. Simply align the drum unit with the toner color on it.

7. After all four drum units are installed, you can now pull out the seal strip for each drum.

Reminder: Remember to pull out the seal strip for each drum assembly before turning on the machine after installing the drums!

8. Return the release lever to its original position and reinstall the waste toner box.

The installation is now complete. You can turn on the machine.
